1. Q Who were the Lumiere brothers ?
1 A. The two Lumiere brothers name were Auguste and Louis who were sons to a painter turned businessman Antoine Lumiere. The Lumiere brothers are well known for inventing Cinematography in 1895. They both went to a technological school. However Louis was able to create a dry plate at just the age of seventeen. This give his father more business and him the name Etiquette Bleue.
2.Q When and where did they live ?
2.A They were both born in Besancon, France. In 1870 both brothers moved to Lyon to attend a technological school. The school was called La Martiniere Lumiere.
3.Q Who ruled their country ?
3.A The people who ruled the country that the brothers lived in were multiple people who were all presidents such as Armand Fallieres from 1906 - 1913. another was a person called Raymond Poincare from 1913 - 1920.
4.A what was going on in the world around that time ?
4.Q As the brothers grew up, the world around them will have a shock that the first world war was going to begin. From 1914 to 1918 it was bombs and death, so much so that a bomb being dropped could be heard from London itself. Then the second world war began and ended just three years before the younger of the two, Louis died in 1948.
5. Q What were the films about ?
5.A When the brothers started to film, they started with simple everyday things that would happen to everyday people. For example work staff exiting the work place, people feeding kids and a person stepping on a hose to play a trick on someone. They even went as far as to film someone who is washing themself in the sea.
6.Q How long are they and why ?
6.A Their films last as long as 35 to 49 sec which is not even a minute long. I think the reason why they were so short is because they speeded up the film, not to mention that what they were filming would have not been that interesting for then a mint at top.
7 .Q What can you say about the cinematography and other aspects of film language?
7.A When watching all the films you can tell that they do not change from their spot, nor do they even zoom out or in which you would find it a bit boring. It also seems to be a very simple way of filming that could have died out. Films are also in black and white, with funny upbeat piano music and no speech
